building character through community

Community Service

Montgrove College has established a Community Service program which recognises the service that students carry out during the year.

All secondary students are expected to complete a set number of community service hours per year while striving to achieve a bronze, silver or gold award for outstanding contributions in the area of community service.

Volunteering gives students the opportunity to serve in real life situations, helping others and interacting with people from all walks of life. They are able to discover their own strengths and qualities, using these to help others, while growing in empathy and leadership.

Co-Curricular Activities

At Montgrove College, our priority is to provide students with a holistic approach to education, focusing our efforts on supporting our students through academic excellence and care.

We aim to provide a rich, positive and safe environment that supports individual styles and paces of learning.

Students can also participate in establishing their personal goals for learning as we endeavour to present experiences that are adaptable to the individual child’s needs.

Montgrove College offers a range of co-curricular activities, supporting and encouraging our students to discover and develop their academic talents and special interests. These activities include:

  • Debating
  • Public Speaking

  • Vocal Ensemble

  • Triathlon
  • HZ trimester sports

Music plays a significant role at Montgrove College. We recognise the importance of music as a spatial, social, as well as musicological learning tool; essential to the holistic approach to education we have available to our students. As part of the Creative Arts course, it is taught from Kindergarten to Year 6. It covers the mandatory curriculum for Years 7 and 8, as well as the elective program in Years 9 and 10 and the Preliminary and HSC options in Years 11 and 12.

Co-curricular music encompasses choirs and instrumental and vocal ensembles. Montgrove has been very successful over the years gaining 1st place at the Penrith Eisteddfod in all of the above groups.

Individual tuition is offered for voice and piano by specialist tutors.

In essence, Music at Montgrove College is hands-on and available to all students. It integrates the elements of performance, listening, musicological research, and composition at varying levels. It encourages both the social and individual aspects of the music-making process. It fosters creativity whilst building linear and nonlinear thinking or problem-solving skills.

In summary it is a fun and engaging program that encourages the development of the whole person (including sensory, intellectual, emotional, cultural, physical, spatial, and social).

We look forward to Music at Montgrove growing from strength to strength in years to come.

Sport At Montgrove

Montgrove College has a growing culture of sport.

As part of the curriculum, K-4 participate in non-competitive sporting opportunities. In Years 5-12 opportunities to be involved in a sporting team or individual activity are strongly encouraged and supported.

The College is involved with the Hills Zone Sporting Association (HZSA) giving the opportunity for our students to compete at higher levels against other schools further from our school Athletics, Swimming and Cross Country Carnivals.

Montgrove College has a strong participation in parent-run clubs such as Basketball and Soccer for students with a keen interest and ability in those areas.

Montgrove College believes sport is an integral part of a student’s learning as it develops skills, fosters sportsmanship and enjoyment as well as equipping students for lifelong regular participation in sport and recreational activities.
